Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how Nakhla Studio (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects and uses personal information when you visit nakhlastudio.com (the “website”) or contact us through it.

Nakhla Studio is operated by Obie Elghreaw, based in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, we are the “controller” of the personal information described in this policy.

You can contact us about anything in this policy at hello@nakhlastudio.com. We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer; that address is the contact point for all privacy questions and requests.

What information we collect

1. Information you give us

If you use the contact form on the website, you can give us your name (required), your email address (optional), the type of service you are interested in, and details of your project. If you email or message us directly, we receive your email address, the name shown on your account, and whatever you write to us.

Please do not send us sensitive information (for example health details, government ID numbers, passwords or payment card numbers). We do not need them to answer an enquiry.

2. How the contact form works

The contact form on this website does not send your details to our website, to a database or to any server. When you press “Send by email”, your own email app opens with your message pre-filled and addressed to us. Nothing reaches us until you press send in that app. Until then the details stay on your device and we do not receive or store them.

Once you do send, the message travels through your email provider, which handles it under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not control that.

3. Information collected automatically

The website is delivered by a third-party web hosting provider. Like almost all web servers, the host processes technical data when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, the date and time, and the referring page. This is used to deliver the site and keep it secure and reliable. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We do not use cookies, and the website currently has no analytics, advertising or tracking tools. It loads no third-party scripts, fonts, maps or embedded content: the fonts and everything else are served from our own site.

The website stores one small item, ns-lang, in your browser’s local storage. It only remembers whether you prefer English or Arabic. It stays on your device, is not sent to us, contains no personal information, and you can delete it at any time in your browser settings.

If we add analytics or any other tracking in the future, we will update this policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before anything non-essential is stored or read on your device.

How and why we use your information

We only use personal information when we have a lawful basis under UK GDPR. The table shows what we do and why.

What we use it forInformation involvedLawful basis
Replying to your enquiry, discussing your project and preparing a quoteName, email, service type, project detailsTaking steps at your request before entering into a contract (Article 6(1)(b)); where you write on behalf of a business, our legitimate interest in responding to business enquiries (Article 6(1)(f))

Keeping accounting and tax recordsInvoices, payment records and related correspondenceLegal obligation (Article 6(1)(c))
Keeping the website secure and workingTechnical data in server logs, such as IP addressLegitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): running a secure, reliable website
Establishing, exercising or defending legal claimsAny of the above that is relevantLegitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f))

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have weighed them against your rights and expectations. We do not make automated decisions about you or profile you, and we will not add you to a marketing list unless you ask us to.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where needed, with:

  • Service providers that help us run the studio and website, such as our email provider, our website hosting provider. They act on our instructions or under their own terms, as applicable.
  • Professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers, where needed.
  • Authorities and others where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, or in connection with a sale or reorganisation of the business (in which case we would tell you).

If you become a client we may use project tools (for example for file sharing or project management). We will tell you which ones before we put your information in them.

International transfers

We work with clients worldwide, including in Libya, and some of our providers (for example email and web hosting) may process information outside the United Kingdom. If you contact us from outside the UK, your information will be sent to the UK.

Where we transfer personal information from the UK to a country that does not have UK “adequacy regulations”, we use an appropriate safeguard, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or rely on another lawful exception.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that do not lead to a project: for up to 12 months after our last contact, then we delete them.
  • Clients: for the length of our work together, and then for 6 years, which covers UK accounting and tax record-keeping and the time limit for legal claims.
  • Server logs: held by our hosting provider under its own retention schedule.

If you ask us to delete your information, we will do so unless we have to keep it for legal reasons.

Keeping your information safe

The website is served over HTTPS with security headers, and we keep access to the information we receive limited to what is needed. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure. Standard email is not always encrypted end to end, so please keep sensitive details out of your first message.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • be informed about how we use your information (this policy);
  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate information corrected, or incomplete information completed;
  • have your information erased in certain circumstances;
  • restrict how we use it in certain circumstances;
  • data portability: receive information you gave us in a portable format, where we process it on the basis of a contract and by automated means;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent (we do not currently rely on consent for anything); and
  • not be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing (we do not make such decisions).

To use any of these rights, email hello@nakhlastudio.com. We may need to check your identity first. We aim to reply within one month; for complex requests the law allows us to extend this by up to two further months, and we will tell you if so. There is normally no charge. These rights are not absolute and some only apply in certain situations.

Complaints

If you have a concern, please contact us first at hello@nakhlastudio.com so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, helpline 0303 123 1113.

Children, links and changes

Children. The website and our services are aimed at businesses and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Links. The website may link to other websites and services. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other services.

Changes. We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date is at the top of this page, and we will make the changes clear if they are significant.
